The son of former Oklahoma City Mayor [[Jim Norick]], Ron Norick graduated from [[Northwest Classen High School]] in 1959 and later attended [[Oklahoma City University]]. He became mayor of Oklahoma City in 1987. One of the major achievements of Norick's tenure as mayor was the passage, and subsequent implementation of the first Metropolitan Area Projects ([[MAPS]]), which among other things, would eventually see the construction of the [[Bricktown Ballpark]], and a new sports arena where the NBA's [[Oklahoma City Thunder]] now play. In addition to overseeing the beginning of MAPS, Norick served as mayor during the time of the [[Oklahoma City Bombing]] in 1995. He is also the namesake of one of the Metropolitan Library System's branches, the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library.
