Born in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, Abram Ross (1910-1984) was an African American business owner, and Oklahoma's first African-American radio DJ. Beginning in 1948 Ross hosted the daily radio program, “Negroes in the News.” A local celebrity, Ross hosted an annual birthday celebration that drew thousands and featured local and nationally known acts. Ross also owned his own advertising agency. The street he lived on, Abram Ross Ave., was named in his honor.
